Duties:

  • As a member of the Crisis Outreach team you will provide psychiatric nursing consultation services to staff of community partner agencies and clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, using best practice and innovative approaches, including specialized psychiatric nursing assessments and referral to appropriate resources.
  • Work collaboratively, cooperatively and effectively within the Outreach Team and with the community partners agencies including hospitals.
  • Practice in a variety of community settings within the city of Ottawa.
  • Conduct specialized psychiatric nursing assessments including, mental status assessments in the community environment.
  • Provide formal and informal educational sessions to community partner agency staff regarding mental illness, treatment and recovery.
  • Collaborate with family physicians and psychiatrists in the clinical support of case managers and their mentally ill clients.
  • Participate in identifying and creating effective measures to evaluate and improve services.
  • Participate in evaluation research activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and nursing standards by reviewing literature, attending educational events, networking with colleagues, etc.
  • Ensure documentation and data collection is maintained in accordance with hospital, college and legislative standards and timelines.
  • Complete all required non-clinical administrative documentation (i.e. Workload measurement, quality improvement, forms, etc.)
  • To work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG.
  • To ensure a work environment that is conducive to the ROHCG Respectful Workplace policy.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BScN is preferred.
  • Experience working with homeless individuals or those at risk of homelessness.
  • Minimum five years experience working with seriously mentally ill individuals, and those with a concurrent disorder.
  • Experience working in the community and knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with the Mental Health Act of Ontario.
  • Completion of Non-violent Crisis Intervention Workshop (CPI)
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months.
  • Concurrent Disorder Training (asset).
  • Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is preferred.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace or Safer Workplace Workshop.
  • Advanced assessment, crisis intervention and counselling skills.
  • Excellent communication and team skills.
  • Excellent Advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a progressively more automated environment.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable, accessible vehicle required.
  • English level A- in oral comprehension, oral expression, reading and writing is mandatory.
  • Bilingualism (French/ English) is preferred.

Salary Range: $29.36 to $42.44 hourly
