We are incredibly proud of our volunteer program at The Royal. With over 300 volunteers who dedicate their time, skills and talents in a wide variety of ways, our volunteers contribute to community-building both inside and outside of the walls of our facilities. Volunteers have been fundamental to the fabric of our organization for over one hundred years.
Volunteering provides a unique opportunity to get involved with an organization or for a cause that is personally meaningful to you and we hope that the following information will help you to decide whether or not we are a good fit for you. Click here to read about our volunteers.
Volunteers help improve clients’ quality of life and also raise funds for our programs by operating a variety of ventures including a used clothing shop (donations of gently used clothing are gratefully accepted), a beauty salon and two coffee shops – all of which are open to the public. In addition, we hold two annual fundraising events: Cracking-Up The Capital for Mental Health and our Christmas tree sale in December.
The volunteer positions at The Royal provide opportunities to develop new skills and work with a diverse group of people within a mental health care setting, in both interactive roles as well as behind the scenes in support or administrative roles. With a minimum commitment of 6 months, we offer volunteer opportunities for adults and youth 16 years of age or older, that are both flexible and rewarding. Please note that we do also offer summer volunteer placements of 2 or 4 months for high school, university and college students.
In recognition of the value of your time, our commitment to you in return is to ensure that your volunteer experience is a positive one! Annmarie Nicholson, our Director of Volunteer Services, will meet with you to explore your interests and find the best volunteer placement possible to fit your goals.
