Electroencephalography (EEG)

Genotyping and nicotine research-study
Purpose: To investigate the cognitive effects of nicotine between individuals with different genotypes. Brain wave activity is looked at to assess attention, memory, and concentration. A saliva sample is taken to assess genotypes.

The EEG lab at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre is looking for volunteers:

  • 18-40 year old Caucasian males
  • Right-handed
  • Non-smokers (less then 100 cigarettes in their lifetime)
  • No history of alcohol or drug dependence
  • Compensation will be provided for your time and effort.

Nicotine, “Special K” and Psychosis Research Study
The EEG lab at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre is looking for volunteers:

  • 18-40 year old males
  • right handed
  • smoked less than 100 cigarettes in their lifetime
  • no history of drug or alcohol dependence disorder

Purpose: to study the cognitive effects of ketamine and nicotime-like drugs. Brain electrical activity is measured in order to assess and test memory, attention and concentration.

Compensation will be provided for your time and effort in this study.

EEG lab participants needed – $200
The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre’s Neuroelectrophysiology and Cognitive Research Lab is currently recruiting the second wave of participants for a study on monoamine oxidase inhibition in relation to nicotine.

4 sessions (aprx. 2.5 hrs/ea) are required. Test sessions involve sub-clinical doses of either a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (Manerix) or placebo; as well as nicotine gum (Nicorette) or placebo.

The EEG hookup is non-invasive and all study procedures have been approved by The Royal’s Research Ethics Board and Health Canada.

You must be a non-smoking male with no history of neurological or psychiatric conditions. Participants are paid $200 upon completing the 4th session. Serious inquiries only.

Participants needed – nicotine, genetics and cognition research study

The EEG lab at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre is looking for volunteers:

• 30-60 years old
• no history of drug or alcohol abuse
• no history (or first-degree relative history) of psychiatric illness

Purpose: to study the cognitive effects (including memory, attention, and the ability to filter out irrelevant sounds) of nicotine-like drugs on the brain’s electrical responses (as measured by EEG) in different genetic subgroups.

Participants will be compensated $75 upon completion of the study.
