Dr. Gail Beck

Board member

Dr. Gail Beck is the interim Psychiatrist-in-Chief and Chief of Staff at The Royal. Her current clinical work is on the Youth Inpatient Psychiatry Program and in the Adolescent Day Treatment Unit. She has been on staff at the Royal since 2002.

Dr. Beck blogs regularly on Youth Mental Health at www.DrGailBeck.com and her blogs have been carried by both the Medical Post and the Scientific Parent. She has provided Op-Eds to both Post Media and the Globe and Mail in Canada. She is regularly interviewed by local, national and international media in youth mental health.

Dr. Beck is a Governor and Chair of the Board of Governors at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario.

Dr. Beck was Chair of the Board of the Ontario Medical Association in 2016-2017 and served as an OMA Director from 2007 until 2017. She served on the Board of the Canadian Medical Association from 2008 until 2014. From 2002 until 2004, Dr. Beck worked at the Canadian Medical Association as the Director of the Office for Women in Medicine and the Acting Associate Secretary General.

As President of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada from 2005-2006, Dr. Beck successfully lobbied to have the HPV Vaccine funded for Canadian women. She has also served as the President of the Academy of Medicine Ottawa. Dr. Beck has been the Treasurer of Medical Women's International Association and represented that organization at the World Health Assembly and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

Dr. Beck has been awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. She is a Member of the Order of Ontario for her work with children and youth.
