Many individuals experience anxiety, low mood, stress or life transitions, but can feel their concerns are “not serious enough,” or struggle to find appropriate support.

This presentation equips community members with clear guidance on accessing and navigating mental health services for mild to moderate symptoms. The Royal provides practical, evidence-based strategies to ensure timely access to care, connecting hospital expertise, research insights, and community resources in a unified approach.

Key Objectives

  • Recognize mild to moderate mental illness symptoms and understand their impact on daily functioning.
  • Learn about available supports, from self-help resources and peer support to brief therapy and community-based care.
  • Understand how to access services through primary care, walk-in clinics, online platforms and local agencies.
  • Identify common barriers to seeking help and strategies to overcome them, including effective self-advocacy.
  • Gain practical tips for managing symptoms and recognizing when professional intervention is needed.
  • Promote a realistic, strengths-based approach that prioritizes early support and reduces risk of worsening illness.
