Strength in shared purpose

The Royal works with organizations across Eastern Ontario to deliver and support treatment for people living with complex mental illness and addictions. This overview highlights examples of our partnerships.

Mental illness and addiction are health conditions, but recovery is a community achievement.

Mental Health Partners

The Royal is a member of Mental Health Partners (MHP), a provincial alliance advancing specialized psychiatric care and innovation.

Founded in 2010, MHP began as an alliance between Ontario’s four specialized stand-alone psychiatric facilities. In 2021, the network expanded to include five divested provincial psychiatric hospitals, with most members being forensic mental health hospitals.

MHP supports Ontarians with the most severe and persistent mental illnesses and addictions by:

  • Providing highly specialized clinical care.
  • Integrating locally to deliver and support care at all levels of need.
  • Advancing education, knowledge exchange, research and innovation to build a coordinated, evidence-informed system of care.

MHP strengthens the mental health system through:

  • Building meaningful relationships with hospital, community and government partners.
  • Offering clinical and innovation expertise to inform public policy and improve treatment quality.
  • Championing solutions to reduce pressure on acute care and primary care, improving access to services.
