Steve West

Steve West is an accomplished business leader and community champion with extensive experience in health sciences, corporate governance, strategic planning and philanthropy. He is President of Westmax Group Inc. and previously served as Chief Executive Officer of MDS Inc. and Nordion Inc. His career has also included senior leadership roles in venture capital and international business.

Steve has contributed extensively to healthcare governance and fundraising in the Ottawa community. Before becoming Chair of The Royal’s Board of Trustees in June 2026, he served as a Trustee and Chair of the Governance Committee. He is also a former Chair of the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research at The Royal and The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.

Steve brings a collaborative and strategic approach to leadership, along with a strong commitment to advancing mental health care and research. He is also a photographic artist who has used his work to promote greater awareness and understanding of mental illness, substance use and stigma.
