Scientist & Director, Clinical EEG & Neuroimaging (CeeN) Laboratory
I study how the brain works in people living with mental illness—especially mood disorders such as depression. She uses multiple forms of imaging to address this. My goal is to find brain-based clues that can help predict how someone might respond to different treatments, and how these therapies affect the brain (e.g., exercise intervention, psychotherapy and drug therapy)
I lead innovative research using brain imaging tools like EEG, MRI, and PET scans to better understand depression, mental illness and risk for mental illness. I have received national funding, including a Discovery Grant from NSERC, and was selected for The Royal’s Emerging Research Innovators in Mental Health (eRIMh) program, and CIHR.
By exploring how treatments like exercise and brain stimulation affect brain activity, I hope to create more personalized and effective options for young people struggling with depression. My work has also helped to clarify the neural features associated with mental illness and emotional and cognitive processing. My work aims to improve mental health care by making it more targeted and science-informed, particularly in youth.
