About

Dr. Brender received his M.D. in 2009 from Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest, Hungary- cum laude. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Beer-Yaacov Mental Health Centre, affiliated with Tel Aviv University, Israel. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry in Israel and obtained a geriatric psychiatry diploma from Tel Aviv University, Israel. 

Prior to moving to Canada, he was a Senior Staff Psychiatrist and Geriatric Psychiatrist and led a multidisciplinary team in the management of adult and geriatric inpatients. Dr. Brender completed a two-year clinical fellowship at CAMH in Toronto focused on therapeutic brain interventions (ECT, MST and rTMS) and mood and anxiety in geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Brender is an assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa since 2022. Prior to joining to the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, Dr. Brender worked as a Staff Psychiatrist on the inpatient units at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH).

He is currently a Staff Psychiatrist in the Mood and Anxiety Program, since 2022, and in the Geriatric Psychiatry Program, since 2023 at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. 

Dr. Brender joined the rTMS team in early 2023 and is now Clinical Lead – Client Care, with a focus on clinical operations and oversight of client care.
