Doctoral Practicum in Clinical Psychology

Clinical Practicum training program that aims to expose students to the professional roles of a hospital-based Psychologist and to acquire the foundational and functional competency skills to increase readiness for pre-doctoral residency training. Available for students completing Doctoral Clinical Psychology programs.

The Royal’s Doctoral Practicum Training program is designed to provide trainees with the opportunity to gradually assume the professional roles of a hospital-based Clinical Psychologist, consistent with the Scientist-Practitioner model. These roles entail the integration of previous training and a further development of the scientific, professional, and ethical bases of professional practice.

Practicum Opportunities

The Royal is pleased to offer the Clinical Practicum training for psychology learners in the following areas. Please note, not all rotations are consistently available during each practicum cycle:

Depending on the clinical program, practicum students may be exposed to a variety of activities, including assessment, evidence-based interventions, and program development and evaluation. Practica placements typically begin in September or March and are either 6- or 12-months in duration.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants for a Doctoral Clinical Psychology practicum at The Royal are those who are currently registered in a CPA-accredited Doctoral Clinical Psychology graduate program and are in the process of completing their degree.

We do not offer clinical practicum opportunities to undergraduate students at this time.

Practicum Training Handbook

The Practicum Training Handbook has been developed by The Royal’s Psychology Training Committee. It is designed to provide an overview of pertinent organization policies and procedures and information regarding expectations concerning clinical training, clinical supervision and professional development. Supervising Psychologists and practicum students are expected to know and follow the guidelines.
