Ottawa man walks 24-hours straight to support women’s mental health

24 Hour Walk for Women's Mental Health

Imagine being so committed to a cause, you would walk 24-hours to raise awareness for it.

Women’s mental health advocate and new friend of the Royal Ottawa Foundation, Marc Gagnon did just that.

Commencing July 27, (his first day of his summer vacation!) from his home in Hintonburg, with a swing past The Royal, on to Stittsville and a photo op with City Councillor Gord Garner, Marc was met with encouragement from Royal Ottawa Foundation staffers throughout his journey. Marc’s journey concluded at CTV Ottawa earlier this morning.

“The cause of mental illness is close to me,” says Marc Gagnon. “All of us know someone suffering. Me walking for 24 hours fairs in comparison to those who live with a mental health challenge every single day of their lives.”

Marc’s 24-hour journey marks exactly two months to the day of the virtual 8th annual Run for Women, brought to you by the LOVE YOU by Shoppers Drug Mart™ being held across Canada on Sept. 27 as a shared movement in support of women’s mental health. This year, 100 per cent of the $40.00 registration proceeds will be donated to Women’s Mental Health at The Royal. (Not only are you supporting a great cause, there is a $100 swag bag in it for you!)

“I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the first day of vacation, says Gagnon. “I hope I inspire others to register for the event and support women’s mental health programs at The Royal.”
