Introducing a new way to engage with your health care team at The Royal

My Health, My Way is a health care portal that supports The Royal's vision to empower clients to participate more fully in their health care.

What is My Health, My Way?  

My Health, My Way is a powerful online tool that gives you easy and secure access to information about your mental health care at The Royal. My Health. My Way. will be available to clients of The Royal starting on October 20, 2020.

Who is it for?

My My Health, My Way is  for clients of The Royal who can access it to view and update their personal health information. Starting in 2021, clients will also be able to grant access to any support people with whom they would like to share access to this information (these individuals are called proxies). 

What information can I find in My Health, My Way?  

You can find:

  • The personal demographics in you health record (age, gender, etc.)
  • Current medication (only for outpatients)
  • Lab results
  • Some clinical reports such as discharge summaries and consultation reports
  • A history of your appointments at The Royal
    • Any appointments you have scheduled at The Royal’s Sleep Clinic  (appointments related to other programs and clinics will be added in the future)
Why should I use My Health, My Way?

My Health, My Way contains important information that can help empower you as you work in collaboration with your clinical team to achieve your recovery goals. My Health, My Way enables you to review information about health, prepare for appointments, keep track of your medications and certain appointments, and share information with the friends or family who help support your health. Because My Health, My Way is an online portal, this information is simple to access, and always available and up to date. 

How do I sign up?  
Is it secure?  

Yes, we are committed to protecting your privacy. My Health, My Way is a secure and confidential web tool.

Where can I access My Health, My Way? 

You can access My Health, My Way from any place where you have a computer/tablet or phone with internet access.  If you do not have a device of your own, you can access My Health, My Way from a computer at places like the public library or in the Mental Health Community Library at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (1145 Carling Avenue).

Can my family access my information?

Currently, only clients of The Royal can access their personal health information in My Health, My Way Starting in 2021, clients will be able to grant access to any support people with whom they would like to share access to this information (these individuals are called proxies). This could be a family member or a friend.

The decision to allow others to access your health information is very personal and it will depend on your individual circumstances and relationships. It may be helpful to have someone who is able to view your information and use that knowledge to support you in your treatment, but it is not mandatory and there are ways people can support you without this access. 

If you think you want to grant someone proxy access to your information, you should discuss it with that person before beginning the process (Information about how to grant proxy access will be posted on the web page when that capability becomes available in 2021).

What do I need to sign up? Can any client sign up?

Clients of The Royal who are over 16 years old and have the capacity to collect, use and disclose personal health information may be granted access to My Health, My Way. [Please note that My Health, My Way is not available to clients of the Secure Treatment Unit at the St. Lawrence Valley Correctional and Treatment Centre, clients whose care is managed under the Ontario Review Board and clients undergoing court-ordered assessment.]

To access the portal, you will need a computer with Internet access and an email address for setup. If you do not have an email address, there are a number of free, web-based e-mail services that you can use to get a personal email address. Information about setting up one of these e-mail addresses can be found here.

Note you will be required to show proof of your identity, such as a Health Card, to complete the sign-up process for your account.
