Dr. Andrew J. Greenshaw

Dr. Andrew J. Greenshaw, University of Alberta Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, previously served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research in Ottawa until 2017. Trained in Europe and Canada, a Fellow of the CCNP (Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology, serving as President from 2000-2002), and CINP (Collegium Internationale Neuropsychopharmacologicum), Andy served as University of Alberta Associate Vice President (Research) from 2004-2011 and was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Neuroscience Mental Health & Addiction from 20102-2016. Andy has served on numerous Canadian Medical Research Council and Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant panels since 1989, currently as Chair of the Banting (CIHR) Postdoctoral Fellowship Committee and is also a member of the CIHR-funded indigenous mental health network (NEIHR) in Canada. Andy continues to serve, since 2016, as the inaugural Scientific Director for the APEC Digital Hub for Mental Health, mentalhealth.apec.org/, is a member of the Global Leadership Council of the e-Mental Health International Collaborative emhicglobal.m/about/global-leadership-council/, and the Board Chair of Mental Health Research Canada mhrc.ca/. Andy’s prior administrative record includes service on numerous other national and international boards including the Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation, the Institute of Health Economics, and the University of the Arctic. From 2006 to 2015, Andy served as Co-Chair of the Alberta Addictions and Mental Health Research Partnership Committee. Current service includes membership of the Scientific Advisory Board for Little Warriors, a national organization committed to the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse, and the role of Chair of the Board of Our House, in Edmonton, a long-term residential treatment centre for men in recovery from addiction. Andy has broad research interests that range from neuroscience to policy in mental health, with particular interests in AI and machine learning applications and e-health. Andy is a founding member of the University of Alberta computational psychiatry group, collaborating closely with members of the Alberta machine intelligence institute. In 2024 Andy was honored by the e-Mental Health International Collaborative with a Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to global advancement of Digital Mental Health.
