Overview

The Mental Health Act sets out the processes and obligations of psychiatric facilities in Ontario. It governs the admission process, the different categories of admission, as well as directives around assessment, care, and treatment. The Mental Health Act has significant implications for those whose lives it touches — those who receive treatment under the act, their families, the public, and health care professionals.

Kelly Kilbreath, the Community Treatment Order coordinator at The Royal, will provide an overview of some important aspects of the Mental Health Act, including some of the most commonly used processes and forms. She will also address some basics related to Community Treatment Orders. To facilitate the comfort and confidentiality of participants, this session will not be recorded.
