Tips and resources for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

A message of support, validation, and encouragement to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

There is A LOT happening in the world today that is directly affecting members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Current events are taking a huge toll on the mental health of the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ community, particularly youth.

In a world that can be filled with so much hate and negativity, it’s important that as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and as allies, we stand together and show up for each other – not only during Pride season, but every day. It is also to remember the purpose and origins of the Pride Movement.

Always remember that you are valid and that you belong – no matter your gender identity, sexuality, or gender expression. Know that if you’re having a hard time coping, there are resources available to help you.

When times are tough, it’s important to keep these things in mind:

  1. Connect with your community for support, and reach out to those who understand and care about you.
  2. Take space if you need to. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves in the moment is to take a step back. And that’s okay.
  3. If you feel unsafe, tell someone. Lean on your community and support system, or call 911 if you’re in imminent danger. You’re not in this alone.
  4. Find your calm. This looks different for everyone, but figure out what helps you soothe you when you’re feeling stressed or anxious. Consider journaling, meditation, listening to music… whatever helps bring you out of your stress and into the present moment.
  5. Reach out to mental health support services or crisis lines if you need them (see links below).

Let’s show up for one another, support one another, and most importantly, keep each other safe.
