Neuroscience and Mental Health Trainee Network (NeuMe-TN) Conference

Over the years, the network comprising junior researchers at The Royal has continued to evolve. Now called the Neuroscience and Mental Health Trainee Network (NeuMe-TN), their objective remains the same: to create a centralized and collaborative network dedicated to enhancing opportunities for mental health research, education, and training for early-career researchers affiliated with The Royal.

Following several years of fantastic leadership by Ana Santos (PhD candidate, Carleton University) and Rami Hamati (PhD candidate, University of Ottawa), the network is now led by Co-Chairs Caroline Wallace (Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Ottawa) and Zacharie Saint-Georges (MD/PhD candidate, University of Ottawa).

Caroline and Zacharie have started out their tenure as Co-Chairs by hosting monthly lunches for trainees, with the goal of increasing engagement within the network and scientific collaboration with peers. Their planning for NeuMe-TN’s signature annual conference, with the theme of “The Future of Mental Health Research” is already underway and will take place in October 2023. Additionally, NeuMe-TN will be partnering with the University of Ottawa Journal of Medicine to bring a 3-Minute Thesis competition to the Institute of Mental Health (IMHR) in 2023. Caroline and Zacharie also have plans to expand with networking events and research-based activities for trainees including a “12 Weeks to a Journal Article” writing program.

This year, through increasing their reputation, presence, and reach via social media NeuMe-TN hopes to expand their mandate by helping to provide opportunities for trainees’ to highlight their research on the local stage and beyond. You can follow them on Twitter here.
