A new hope for suicide prevention

With the support of DIFD and the Mach-Gaensslen Foundation,  Dr. Zachary Kaminsky, an expert in suicide predictors and major depression, will join The Royal as the first research chair in Ottawa dedicated to suicide prevention. Dr. Kaminsky is one of the first researchers to connect molecular biology and mental health.

“I’m thrilled to join the IMHR team and begin blazing a trail in suicide prevention research in the nation’s capital,” says Dr. Kaminsky. “In my previous role at Johns Hopkins Medicine, I learned that we need not go at it alone and partnerships are the key to successful knowledge transfer.  Thanks in part to DIFD donors, we hope to develop predictive biomarkers and analytics which could be useful for early diagnosis of suicide risk. For this, I am so inspired.”

This achievement would not have been possible without the vision and support from DIFD donors and Mach-Gaensslen Foundation of Canada.
