Dr. Dawn Stacey
Professor Dawn Stacey is a distinguished university professor and Vice Dean of Research for the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. At the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, she is a Senior Scientist in the Centre for Implementation Research and co-scientific director of the Patient Decision Aids Research Group.
Her research is focused on developing, evaluating, and implementing interventions to support patients and their families/caregivers to be actively engaged as partners in making healthcare decisions. She is an internationally recognized expert in decision and implementation sciences studying methods that increase the uptake of research findings into routine healthcare decisions within clinical practice, organizations, and health policies. She leads interdisciplinary research teams to conduct original research with graduate students and knowledge users (e.g., patients, families, healthcare professionals, policy makers).
Her groundbreaking research (>340 peer reviewed papers, H-index 70, >150 invited international or national presentations) and international leadership are acknowledged with prestigious fellowships (Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, American Academy of Nursing, Canadian Academy of Nursing) and research awards (Society for Medical Decision Making Career Achievement Award, Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology Award of Distinction, University of Ottawa 2020-2021 Award of Excellence in Research). Research findings and decision aids are disseminated on her website (https://decisionaid.ohri.ca) with 250,000 annual page views and used widely in clinical practice, education for healthcare professionals, organizations, and health policy in Canada, Chile, Denmark, Norway, Taiwan, Australia, United States and elsewhere.
